BSU Unity Week

Bringing together Auburn students to celebrate Black History Month, the university’s Black Student Union hosted their annual Unity Week from Feb. 12 to 16.

The week kicked off with a painting event on Tuesday to bring “The Opportunity to Express Yourself”. Hosted in the Melton Student Center, students were encouraged to seek unity and personal expression through art.

On Wednesday, the Freshman Committee of BSU hosted a forum to explain to students the goals of the committee and the organization as a whole. Also on Wednesday was a collaborative event with the Auburn Black Caucus, “The Networking Hour”. The purpose of the event was to foster connections between students and professionals in various fields.

The following day, Kevin Brisco, a Black artist featured in Auburn’s Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art showcased his exhibition that is currently on display at the museum. The exhibit centers around his own and his family’s experiences as Black Americans and discovering their ancestry.

The final day of Unity Week brought two events to encourage interaction and relationships between all students on campus. The Field Day hosted on the campus green space was a perfect opportunity for students to mingle, play games and listen to music. On Friday night, BSU worked with the International Student Organization to bring this week’s ISO Social Hour. Every week, the event highlights and celebrates a different culture to educate students and promote inclusivity.
