AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn University’s International Students Organization (ISO) hosted an American-themed social hour Friday at the Melton Student Center.
All Auburn students were invited to meet at the third-floor lobby to enjoy American cuisine and socialize with peers of diverse cultures.
After scanning in with their event passes, the ISO provided food for attendees including hamburger sliders, macaroni and cheese and apple cobbler. Iced tea and water were available for beverages.
Students gathered around the couches and tables of the lobby to make new connections and learn about others’ experiences in America and other cultures.
The organization hosts a social hour every Friday of the semester, each themed around a different culture. Past themes have included Sri Lankan, Indian, Korean, Nepalese and more.
The ISO website states its mission is “to improve multinational understanding between people of different cultures.”
The goals of the organization include easing international students into life at Auburn and promoting “diversity and beneficial interaction between international students and American students” through the weekly social hours and other events throughout the semester.
Other popular events hosted by the ISO include Peace Dinners, World’s Fair and a Soccer Tournament.
